WHEN ListPrice = 0 THEN 'Out of Stock items' It identifies that the product cost is $250 and is marked as an Electronics item. Here, we defined expressions in the WHEN clause for the. Once the expression value evaluates and satisfies a condition in the WHEN clause, its corresponding value is returned. In the searched CASE statement, we specify a CASE expression instead of the direct values. For any other values, display Invalid ValueįROM.If the gender value is F, display it as Female. If the gender value is M, display it as Male.In the below query, we use the following conditions: SQL CASE statements help to standardize the output for defined criteria. Now, our application should display the results without any abbreviations. Suppose we specify the abbreviations for storing employee genders. The standard abbreviations are gender, country codes, marriage status, popular product names, etc. Usually, we use abbreviations to store values in SQL tables. SELECT TOP 5 Nationalidnumber ,ĭata standardization using SQL CASE statements We can specify multiple conditions for the CASE statement. For all other values, it displays the output as Inactive EmployeeįROM.If the value in the is 1, then it shows the Active Employee. The following query implements a simple CASE expression. In this type of CASE statement, we use equality check expressions. The SELECT statement with a simple CASE expression You can download its backup from the Microsoft Docs. Note: In this article, we use the Microsoft sample database, AdventureWorks. Let’s explore the SQL CASE statement using various examples. The CASE statement must end with the END block. It requires at least one set of the WHEN and THEN blocks. For example, if we have a value different then 0 and 1 in the availability column, you get the output from the ELSE code block. If none of the conditions are satisfied, we can use an optional ELSE statement to return the default value. Once a condition evaluates successfully, it stops the evaluation of remaining conditions. SQL Server evaluates the conditions sequentially. Therefore, in the earlier example, the CASE statements work as shown below.Īt a high-level, the syntax for a SQL CASE statement is shown below. In the below image, we see both the database and application perspective.Ī CASE statement in SQL Server evaluates an expression and returns a value based on the defined conditions. Customers just need to view whether the product is available or not. But, from the application perspective, the end-user does not require these values. It is beneficial for the SQL Server query optimizer in preparing the optimized execution plan. If we look at the database perspective, it is a good practice to use the abbreviations or bits wherever possible. Let’s say you store the values for a product’s availability as 1 or 0. Many times, we store the column values in bits 1 or 0. If a voter’s age is greater than 18, they are eligible to vote. If you were looking for logic about voting eligibility, this would be dependent upon the values in the DOB column. For example, suppose you have a voters table with the following details: A SQL CASE statement evaluates and returns results based on particular values, predicates and conditions as per defined logic.

There may well be a choice between having greater surge capacity in healthcare and having greater social restrictions upon our lives. If something similar to Covid, or perhaps even worse, is on its way in only a decade or three, we probably ought to be thinking now about what we would want to do when it arrives.ĭuring Covid, some countries or regions (like Florida) were able to tough it out with only very limited restrictions because their healthcare capacity wasn’t ever at material risk of being overwhelmed. Instead we’d have to find other ways to get by: standing ready to repurpose other resources, say, or perhaps being willing to have short lockdowns to buy time.īut if serious pandemics are actually 10 to 30 year events and it just happens that we had two in a row that were fairly mild, then our attitude to the allocation of resources should perhaps be rather different. If we were only going to need to deal with a serious pandemic once per century it would probably make little sense to aim continuously to provide enough surge capacity – eg critical care beds and ventilators – to cope when the evil day came. If we knew that San Francisco would experience a major earthquake once per century it wouldn’t make any sense to provide enough fire engines, continuously, to cover every blaze that might occur in that extreme case.Ī similar principle applies to healthcare. An event that is going to occur only once a century is not likely to be able to justify providing capacity to deal with it properly when it comes. This difference in picture has potentially very significant policy implications. Had the 1970s Russian Flu and the 2000s Swine Flu been three or four times as bad, mass-killing pandemics would now be seen as rather common events, occurring every one to three decades, instead of the “once in a lifetime” or “once in a century” picture of them we might wish were true. Yet with the hindsight that Covid gives us, that looks much more like brute luck. Whereas there were major pandemics in 1889-90, 1918-1920, 1957-69, the two most acute pandemics of my first five decades – the Russian Flu of 1977-79 and the Swine Flu of 2009 – were much tamer affairs each killing much less than 1 million people worldwide. I was born in 1970, and grew up in an era that, though few recognised it at the time, was very unusual and fortunate in its lack of significant pandemics. We need to count on Jesus and all He has taught us while He was here on Earth. As disciples, we can't rely on ourselves to endure hardships, trials and persecutions. Peace can only be found in Christ in a world that has fallen. Prior to His ascension to heaven, Jesus tried to prepare His disciples for the hardships that lay ahead. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33 (NIV) I will strengthen you and help you I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” - Isaiah 41:10ġ1. The cross is a symbol of sacrifice, sacrificing our desires is a small price to pay in contrast with what He has done for us.ġ0. “So do not fear, for I am with you do not be dismayed, for I am your God. This fact is expressed in Luke 9:23 when Jesus call us to deny ourselves and pick up our cross. A true follower of Jesus Christ seeks His will first and foremost and forsakes all other plans. He gives you the strength to do His will. We all have desires but this verse does not mean God gives you the strength to follow your dreams. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” - Philippians 4:13 So we can have courage in the fact that God has given us the tools we need to defend ourselves and to overcome the enemy.ĩ. God reveals to us in His word who we ought to watch out for and the Bible is very descriptive as to how we can identify those who are up to no good. Identifying who the enemy is, is an important part of fighting a battle. To be shrewd is to be discerning and wise. “I am sending you out like sheep among the wolves therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves” - Matthew 10:16 But you have nothing to fear because it is all in his hands.Ĩ. So submit your life to Him and nothing can stand in your way. 1 Chronicles 12:28 “This also included Zadok, a brave young warrior, with 22 members of his family who were all officers. We have courage because we know what God is capable of doing. Be strong and brave.” So Absalom’s men did to Amnon what Absalom had ordered. 2 Samuel 13:28-29 Absalom ordered his men, “Listen! When Amnon is in high spirits from drinking wine and I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon down,’ then kill him. Now then, be strong and brave, for Saul your master is dead, and the people of Judah have anointed me king over them.Ģ3. 2 Samuel 2:6-7 May the LORD now show you kindness and faithfulness, and I too will show you the same favor because you have done this. “Brave men are all vertebrates they have their softness on the surface and their toughness in the middle.” G.K. Faith in God has not saved people from hardships and trials, but it has enabled them to bear tribulations courageously and to emerge victoriously.” Lee Roberson “Nothing but encouragement can come to us as we dwell upon the faithful dealing of our Heavenly Father in centuries gone by. “Courage! I’ve perfected this gluten free sugar cookies recipe using Better Batter all purpose flour. While each has its place in various gluten free cookie recipes, here's what worked best for me. There are so many out there, from single ingredient options like almond flour and rice flour to gf flour blends comprised of several different flours. Probably the most important decision you'll make when gluten free baking is your choice of flour. The best gluten free flour blend for this gf sugar cookie recipe Gluten free flour is a key factor, of course, as are your choice of sugar and whether to use use dairy or plant-based alternatives. When baking gluten free foods, whether it's Christmas cookies or a delicious Chinese fake-out, there's quite a bit to think about when it comes to selecting the best alternative ingredients for a gluten free diet. Voilà - you've got drop cookies!īest of all, you can still decorate these drop cookies with colored frosting and sprinkles, or just plain powdered sugar, and I promise, no one will bat an eye at your gluten free sugar Christmas cookies that aren't shaped like trees. Roll a piece of dough in your hands until it forms a ball, place it on the baking sheet, and flatten it using the palm of your hand. But if you change your mind mid-recipe, here's what you can do:Īfter kneading your dough, skip the rolling process and instead use a spoon to measure out consistently-sized clumps of dough. For best results, you should try my gluten free drop sugar cookies recipe instead. Prefer gluten free drop sugar cookies? I've got youĭon't feel like pulling out the rolling pin and cookie cutters? We've all been there, and we all understand. There is nothing fragile about the dough, but once you bake the gluten free sugar cookies, they’re tender and light as could be. It’s super simple to roll out, and, although we use gluten free flour, it’s stable enough that it’s even simple to cut out shapes and transfer them to the baking sheet. The dough has very few ingredients so it comes together very quickly. These gluten free sugar cut out cookies are seriously so easy to make from scratch. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Spring celebrations, Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day… need I go on? We all need gluten free cookies that can hold their shape so we can use whatever cookie cutters we please.
The mechanisms are simple to practically nonexistent. The theme is familiar and immersive to most. It is a small jump into Fiasco if you want storytelling or into Letters from Whitechapel if you want to get a bit more mechanical. And it should be right alongside with Splendor, Ticket to Ride, and Pandemic. Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective is an overlooked gateway game that no-one ever mentions. They would have zero effect on gameplay but could make the experience even more immersive. It has the added bonus of being played without a moderator and if you really wanted to toss in some characters, it wouldn’t be too hard to find some mystery tropes to include. Let me be clear, it *isn’t* an RPG but it has that feeling of group cohesion, discussion and discovery. This is a great introduction to RPGs for people who never even thought about playing an RPG. If you can’t answer a question, go back and retrofit an answer. Laugh at the red herrings and gloat over someone’s totally lucky guess that ended up being correct. You don’t get better as you play but you do get more creative in your solutions as you try to make the same logical leaps Sherlock makes. Nor should I! Most of the fun is the disbelief of how he actually solved the crime and your own floundering steps towards a solution. Honestly, I never got to a good ending of a Choose Your Own Adventure book without cheating and I have never get even close to Sherlock’s solution in Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective. This is a gaming experience tailor made for bookworms! It reminds me of the experience of reading a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book with the added benefit of being able to share the experience with more than one person. Both games are certainly on rails but I find the streamlined experience of Sherlock Holmes much more enjoyable. You can move from place to place, examine clues, develop leads, gather materials, and pour over the map and newspapers provided. There is little set up, lots of reading, and plenty of discussion about what to do next. Stories, I prefer the lack of game mechanics in Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective. It was also fun to allow new players to work through the game and provide an occasional hint.Ĭomparing this to T.I.M.E. At first glance there is very little option for replay-ability but having one person moderating the game (who knows the solution) can be fun to attract new players. At 90 minutes a case, it more than provides enough value for the cost. You can ignore the score, and laugh at the result that Sherlock comes up with.Įach case is a one-shot experience and with 10 cases supplied in the game. However, the solutions provided by Sherlock require so many ridiculous logical leaps that it really only serves to prove to the players how intensely smart Sherlock is. Time is of the essence, so visiting too many sites and spending too much time can affect the final score.Īfter the questions, the score is tallied and you compare your results to Holmes’ solution. There are a total of 200 points that can be earned from solving the primary case and any peripheral mysteries that may have been uncovered as well. Once the group has determined they explored and followed enough of the leads, they can move onto the questions for the case. You will gather clues, visit locals who may provide information pertinent to your case or red herrings to lead you astray. Each location moves the team closer to solving the mystery new leads which in turn lead to new locations. The map has dozens of locations to visit in the course of your investigations. The players are encouraged to explore the provided materials and come to a consensus on which location to search. The Unlike the original, Jack the Ripper cases are all linked together in a series and have a map of White-chapel included.Īn introduction is read aloud at the beginning of each case. Each regular case utilizes a large fold-out map of London along with newspapers and a directory. Each case is contained in a booklet with an introduction, several locations with associated text, case questions to test how well you did, and the solution provided by Sherlock to measure yourself against. Similar to the original, 1-8 players work together as a team of “irregular” investigators working with, but also competing against, their boss Sherlock Holmes. The original Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective will be released as The Thames Murders and Other Cases later this year. In this game, the West End Adventures are updated versions of the 1995 expansion to the original game with four completely new adventures centered around Jack the Ripper. Stories and Splendor fame) are updating and redoing the original releases. Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: Jack the Ripper and the West End Adventures ( Amazon) is a series of cases that continue the investigations of the original Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective. the higher the exposure, the greater the risk. These risk factors appear to have a dose-dependent effect, i.e. Fracture probability is also underestimated with multiple fractures. The probability of fracture computed may therefore be underestimated. A prior clinical vertebral fracture or a hip fracture is an especially strong risk factor. A fracture detected as a radiographic observation alone (a morphometric vertebral fracture) counts as a previous fracture. In patients without a BMD test, the field should be left blank (see also notes on risk factors) (provided by Oregon Osteoporosis Center).Ī special situation pertains to a prior history of vertebral fracture. Alternatively, enter the T-score based on the NHANES III female reference data. (BMD) Please select the make of DXA scanning equipment used and then enter the actual femoral neck BMD (in g/cm2). This is equivalent to a standard glass of beer (285ml), a single measure of spirits (30ml), a medium-sized glass of wine (120ml), or 1 measure of an aperitif (60ml) (see also notes on risk factors). A unit of alcohol varies slightly in different countries from 8-10g of alcohol. Otherwise enter no (see also notes on risk factors).Įnter yes if the patient has a disorder strongly associated with osteoporosis. Enter yes or no.Įnter yes or no depending on whether the patient currently smokes tobacco (see also notes on risk factors).Įnter yes if the patient is currently exposed to oral glucocorticoids or has been exposed to oral glucocorticoids for more than 3 months at a dose of prednisolone of 5mg daily or more (or equivalent doses of other glucocorticoids) (see also notes on risk factors).Įnter yes where the patient has a confirmed diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. This enquires for a history of hip fracture in the patient's mother or father. Enter yes or no (see also notes on risk factors). If ages below or above are entered, the programme will compute probabilities at 40 and 90 year, respectively.Ī previous fracture denotes more accurately a previous fracture in adult life occurring spontaneously, or a fracture arising from trauma which, in a healthy individual, would not have resulted in a fracture. The model accepts ages between 40 and 90 years. If the field is left blank, then a "no" response is assumed. Clinicians judgment and/or patient preferences may indicate treatment for people with 10-year fracture probabilities above or below these levelsįor the clinical risk factors a yes or no response is asked for.Low bone mass (T-score between -1.0 and -2.5 at the femoral neck or spine) and a 10-year probability of a hip fracture ≥ 3% or a 10-year probability of a major osteoporosis-related fracture ≥ 20% based on the US-adapted WHO algorithm.T-score ≤ -2.5 at the femoral neck or spine after appropriate evaluation to exclude secondary causes.A hip or vertebral (clinical or morphometric) fracture.Consider FDA-approved medical therapies in postmenopausal women and men aged 50 years and older, based on the following: The method circumvents the limitations of using remote sensing alone, which has difficulty in detecting low intensity pressures 5, such as linear infrastructures 6 and pasture lands 7, and often confounds natural and anthropogenic land covers in arid and mosaic environments 8.Ĭumulative pressure maps have been developed at regional 9, 10 and global scales 11, 12. Cumulative pressure mapping measures the breadth of these pressures by coupling top-down remote sensing of land cover change with data on additional human pressures collected ‘bottom-up’ through systematic surveys and modelling 3, 4. Human pressures on the environment are the actions taken by humans with the potential to harm nature 1, 2. The updated maps should provide an increased understanding of the human pressures that drive macro-ecological patterns, as well as for tracking environmental change and informing conservation science and application. We anticipate that the Human Footprint maps will find a range of uses as proxies for human disturbance of natural systems. A validation analysis using scored pressures from 3114×1 km 2 random sample plots revealed strong agreement with the Human Footprint maps. Pressures were then overlaid to create the standardized Human Footprint maps for all non-Antarctic land areas. Data on human pressures were acquired or developed for: 1) built environments, 2) population density, 3) electric infrastructure, 4) crop lands, 5) pasture lands, 6) roads, 7) railways, and 8) navigable waterways. This represents not only the most current information of its type, but also the first temporally-consistent set of Human Footprint maps. Remotely-sensed and bottom-up survey information were compiled on eight variables measuring the direct and indirect human pressures on the environment globally in 19. |
